Thousands visit third annual Stirling event

Canada -The Intelligenger, by HENRY BURY -14 June 2008: -- A unique 'first class' truck on display here over the weekend still sends chills down Kenny Likens' spine -- and he helped build it... The American trucker was like a proud father as thousands of visitors to the third annual Stirling Truck Show marvelled at his company's entry, First In Class, a candy-coloured truck that has already garnered North American awards for appearance and engineering. It was also a big winner in Stirling taking the best in show title in the big rig buildoff division... His company's orange candycoloured entry was one of approximately 100 trucks on display during the show organized by the Stirling and District Lions Club... Australia’s top truck drivers and industry representatives have been awarded for their commitment and professionalism during the National Trucking Industry Awards

Melbourne,Australia -Supply Chain Review -June 02, 2008: -- ... The ceremony, held as part of the Australian Trucking Convention, recognised the work of five industry achievers.

* Kevin Cartwright was awarded the National Professional Driver of the Year due to his impressive record that spans an incident-free 12 million kms in 44 years.

* The National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year Award went to Helen Savage of Stockmaster, who has spent her 40 years as secretary raising awareness about the importance of trucking in the community.

* The Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Trucking Industry went to the late
John Kelly, who was heavily involved in a number of safety initiatives such as TruckSafe and Truckplus.

* The WA Freight Group took home the Training Excellence Award. The company, which recently became part of Silk Logistics, was recognised as playing a significant role in building qualified staff by way of having national training manager and a fulltime onsite trainer to develop and coordinate a training program.

Two of the largest U.S. ports are among 11 winners of this year's U.S. EPA Clean Air Excellence Awards honoring innovative efforts that make progress in achieving cleaner air

Washington,DC,USA -Enviroment News Service -May 29, 2008: -- ... The awards were established in 2000, at the recommendation of the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee, a senior-level policy group that advises tne EPA on implementing the Clean Air Act. There are four categories of awards: clean air technology, community action, education/outreach, and regulatory policy innovations, with one special award for individual achievement... This year's Southern California winner is for regulatory policy innovations at the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles, which share San Pedro Bay... The ports developed the five year San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan outlining strategies to reduce air emissions and associated health risks from heavy-duty vehicles, oceangoing vessels, cargo-handling equipment, harbor craft, and railroad locomotives involved in port operations.
