ONT,CAN -Transport Topics (USA) -4 June 2008: -- The Ontario Trucking Association said that a joint meeting this week of the Ontario and Quebec government cabinets moved them closer to accord on trucking issues such as implementing speed limiter legislation and allowing for longer combination vehicles... OTA backs a plan by the Ontario government to put speed limiters in trucks that would mandate a top speed of 105 kilometers per hour, the equivalent of 65.2 mph... Tags:

USA -Todays'Trucking(Toronto,ONT,CAN ) -20 May 2008: -- The U.S.-based Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) says Ontario's pending legislation to mandate speed limiters on all trucks in the province "could be detrimental to truck renting and leasing companies."... In a letter to Ontario Minister of Transportation Jim Bradley, TRALA said it actually supports speed limiters on new equipment, but the law as its written could be problematic for truck lessors already under a lease agreement for vehicles already in service... Ottawa,ONT,Canada -Truck Stop Canada -May 16 2008: -- While government officials and big trucking companies in Ontario and Quebec are pushing for mandatory speed limiters on heavy trucks, the transport minister of the Canadian province of Alberta has no plans to follow suit because of enforcement issues... In late April, Luke Ouellette, Alberta minister of transportation, delivered the keynote address to members of the Alberta Motor Transport Association at a management conference.
